The former residence of Xu Ruifang is a classic red tourism attraction.

The former residence of Xu Ruifang is located at Chuci in Zhongshan Village, Yanqian Town, Sanyuan District, Sanming City.

Xu Ruifang was originally from Chongren County, Jiangxi Province. Born in 1906, he moved with his father to Zhongshan Village in Sanyuan District at a young age, residing in the two side rooms of the upper hall of Chuci. The left side room was where his parents lived, and the right side room was Xu Ruifang’s living quarters. Xu Ruifang’s father made a living by trading daily-use fabrics and often traveled along the official road connecting Yong’an, Gongchuan, Zhongshan, Sanyuan, and Meilie. At the age of 18 (1925), Xu Ruifang was admitted to the Third Provincial Normal School of Jiangxi Province. In the winter of the same year, he participated in revolutionary activities. In September 1926, he joined the Chinese Communist Party and was responsible for propaganda work within the branch. At the end of 1927, after returning to Zhongshan Village, he established a secret farmers’ association, encouraging peasants to resist conscription and grain levies, as well as excessive taxes. He also took a teaching position at Yong’an County Middle School, founded a night school for farmers, and promoted revolutionary ideas. In 1929, when news reached Yong’an that Mao Zedong was leading the Red Army into Fujian, Xu Ruifang went to western Fujian to join the Red Army and returned to the revolutionary ranks. In the winter of 1934, Xu Ruifang followed the Red Army on their northward march and unfortunately sacrificed his life in battle at the young age of 28.

Xu Ruifang lived in Chuci for over ten years during his youth. He sympathized with the poor, despised the dark rule of the time, studied diligently, and embraced progressive ideas, laying the foundation for his later joining of the Chinese Communist Party, enlisting in the Red Army, and engaging in a series of revolutionary struggles. After returning to Zhongshan Village, he continued to dedicate himself to the revolution, vigorously promoting Marxist ideology, organizing farmers' associations, founding night schools, and contributing to the early revolutionary struggles in both Sanyuan District and Yong’an County.

This building was originally constructed during the Tongzhi era of the Qing Dynasty (1862–1874) by Yang Gong Chusan, the 13th generation descendant of the Yang family of Zhongshan. It has a history of over 100 years. The building covers an area of approximately 500 square meters and is a two-courtyard wooden structure with a flush gable roof, built using a post-and-lintel construction method. The entire ancestral hall consists of a front courtyard, gate tower, auxiliary rooms, front side rooms, front hall, central courtyard, study room, two flower halls with side rooms, upper hall, rear hall, and a firewall enclosure. It is three bays wide and five bays deep.

Xu Ruifang, also known as Xu Yinghuai, was born in 1906 into a farming family in Daqiao Village, Liancheng Township, Linchuan County, Jiangxi Province (originally part of Chongren County).
