Former Site of the Red 7th Army Corps Headquarters

The former site of the Red 7th Army Corps Headquarters is located in a civilian house next to the Chen Family Courtyard on Middle Road, Zhongshan Village, Yanqian Town, Sanyuan District.

In April 1934, the Red 7th Army Corps remained in the northwestern Fujian Soviet area to pin down enemy forces and support the Fifth Encirclement Campaign against the Central Soviet Area. After the battle at Tongtiegling in Mingxi, the corps moved south from Mingxi through Sanyuan’s Yanqian and Zhongshan, crossed Gongchuan, and used Zhongshan and Gongchuan as rear bases to attack Yong’an County. During this period, the Red 7th Army Corps Headquarters was temporarily stationed in a civilian house next to the Chen Family Courtyard on Middle Road, Zhongshan Village. Leaders of the Red 7th Army Corps, including Corps Commander Xun Huazhou and Chief of Staff Su Yu, lived, worked, commanded battles, and carried out Soviet government construction here. Zhongshan Village established a peasant association and a Red Guards unit, organizing the masses to support the Red Army’s capture of Yong’an City and to transport supplies after the victory. Land redistribution was also implemented. To this day, two slogans left by the Red Army can still be seen on the walls on either side of the house’s main gate: “Welcome home the workers and peasants who followed the Big Sword Society—come back and farm the land!” and “Don’t be bandits of the Big Sword Society—return home to join the revolution, proclaims the Red Army’s provisional government!”

The former Red 7th Army Corps Headquarters in Zhongshan Village was originally a large civilian house. This building is a Ming Dynasty residence, facing west and covering an area of 418 square meters with a total width of 12 meters and depth of 25 meters. It consists of an upper hall, a central courtyard, a lower hall, and a courtyard yard. There are wing rooms on both sides, brick firewalls all around, and drainage channels between the building and surrounding civilian houses.
