Red Army Road

Red Army Road is located to the north of Bixi Village, Chen Da Town, Meilie District.

In the winter of 1933, to support the Red Army’s campaign against Sha County, Ma Fengcheng organized the Shajiao and Bixi party branches to actively cooperate with the Red Army work team. They secretly mobilized Party members and local residents to gather medicinal herbs, which were then transported along this road to Heshan Village to aid the Red Army in its attack on Sha County. After the 3rd Red Army Corps captured Sha County, farmers from Bixi Township responded enthusiastically to the calls of the Party organization and the Peasant Association. Over 20 villagers traveled along this road to Sha County to help the Red Army transport captured supplies. Thereafter, the activities of the Bixi Township Party organization and the Peasant Association grew more active, organizing the masses to join the revolutionary struggle.

In May 1934, during the Fifth Encirclement Campaign, the situation on the northern front of the Central Soviet Area became extremely critical, with the territory shrinking day by day. The 4th Column of the Nationalist Army’s Eastern Route built a frontline from Liancheng to Ninghua and advanced step by step into the Soviet Area. To meet the needs of the anti-encirclement campaign, the 19th Division of the 7th Red Army Corps, led by Division Commander Zhou Jianping, advanced from Mingxi toward the Meilie area, reaching Shajiao and Bixi. More than 1,000 troops passed along this road and regrouped at the rear mountain of Lixi Village. They then divided into four routes to cross the river and launch a fierce attack on a portion of the enemy’s 239th Brigade and two battalions of the 238th Brigade stationed on the eastern bank of the Shaxi River, annihilating most of the enemy forces. Local residents proudly referred to this road as “Red Army Road.”

Bixi Village: Bixi Village is situated at the junction of Mingxi, Sha County, and Sanming, about 21 kilometers from downtown Sanming. It is the only revolutionary base village in Meilie District and was named one of the first Red Army villages in Sanming in 2012. The village administers four natural hamlets: Cuntou, Cunwei, Shenkeng, and Chixia. It has a total of 415 households, 1,529 residents, and 52 Party members, including 58 households (263 people) of ethnic minorities (She people), who live mainly in the Chixia hamlet. The village covers a total land area of 27,940 mu, including 26,000 mu of forested land and 1,940 mu of arable land.
