The Binxian Mountain scenic area consists of three parts: Geli, Xiuzhu Bay, and Binxian Pool. Located on the west bank of the Shaxi River, the mountain ranges from top to bottom are Xiuzhu Bay, Binxian Mountain, and the Shaxi River flows from south to north through Taoyuan Cave for a total length of 6 kilometers to form Binxian Pool. The total area is about 7 square kilometers. This scenic area has a long history and is the origin of the Taoyuan Cave Scenic Area. As early as the Tang Dynasty, monks built thatched huts and lived here. A monk’s tomb still remains. During the Tianfu era (940 AD) of the Later Jin Dynasty in the Five Dynasties period, the Binxian Temple was built, and in the 30th year of the Jiajing reign (1551 AD) of the Ming Dynasty, the Binxian Academy was established. Its natural landscape — “extending ten li up the great rapids, heading southeast, suddenly one spots jagged rocks jutting out on the right side of the creek, which then plunge steeply down, transforming from abrupt protrusions into staggered, crumbled cliffs. All stand interlocked and sheer, forming peaks, rocks, screens, and columns, appearing one after another.” This description drew praise from Xu Xiake. Xiuzhu Bay is tranquil and elegant, preserving an ancient charm; Geli features steep peaks and towering cliffs; Binxian Pool boasts vast blue waters and beautiful mountain reflections, making it a great spot for rock climbing, eco-tourism, and exploring both ancient and modern history. Major attractions include: Stone City, Horse-Riding Rock, Immortal Descent Platform, Grand Canyon, Horse Saddle Ridge, Binxian Academy, Nine Aunts Spring, Taiji Cave, Immortal Meeting Bridge, Binxian Academy, Binxian Temple, Guanyin Rock, Double Longevity Peaches, and Sleeping Beauty. A large cliffside carving on the shore, inscribed with “Heaven and Earth’s Pure Qi,” was written by Li Ruhong, the magistrate of Yong’an County during the Ming Dynasty. The newly built walking trails, towering pavilions, crisp birdsongs, and rich floral fragrances are refreshing and delightful to the senses.
