Former Site of the Young Communist International Division in Mahong

The Former Site of the Young Communist International Division in Mahong is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

The Former Site of the Young Communist International Division in Mahong is located in Mahong Village, Hongtian Town, Yong’an City, dating back to 1934.

Description: The site includes Fengyuan Hall and Zuqiu Hall, both originally built during the Qing Dynasty. Hongtian was an important junction connecting Yong’an with the Central Soviet Area and a major hub for collecting grain, raising funds, and transporting materials. Numerous Red Army units entered Hongtian multiple times to carry out revolutionary activities. They established organizations such as peasant unions, farmers' associations, anti-imperialist and pro-Soviet leagues, mutual aid societies, as well as armed groups like the Red Guards and the Children's Corps. These groups mobilized peasants to struggle against local tyrants and redistribute land. The Young Communist International Division once stationed in Fengyuan Hall in Mahong Village to conduct propaganda and other activities, leaving behind numerous slogans—nearly 200 of which still remain today. The 15th Red Army Division set up its command post and wartime hospital in Zuqiu Hall, where around 60 well-preserved Red Army slogans can still be found.

In 2018, the Former Site of the Young Communist International Division in Mahong was designated as part of the ninth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage protection units by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.

Protected area: Fengyuan Hall – east to Wenchuan Stream, south to the residence of Liao Yuhong, west to Yongwu Expressway, north to farmland. Zuqiu Hall – east to the residence of Liao Yudui, west to the edge of Liao Jinxi’s field, south to the northern bank of Wenchuan Stream, north to Yongwu Expressway.

Mahong Village: Mahong Village is located in the southwestern part of Hongtian Town, about 8 kilometers from the town center. It is the largest administrative village in Hongtian Town, situated along the Wenchuan Stream. Both National Highway 205 and Yongwu Expressway run through the area, providing convenient transportation.

[Village and Residents] The village administers seven natural villages and 15 villager groups, with a total of 359 households and 1,379 residents. The total land area of the village is 30,851 mu, including 27,300 mu of forested land, 2,960 mu of fruit orchards, 5,073 mu of bamboo forests, and 5,650 mu of ecological conservation forests, resulting in a forest coverage rate of 87.3%.
