Carp Mountain

The 19-square-kilometer area around Huangkeng Dazhulan in Jianyang is part of the core zone of the Wuyishan National Nature Reserve, a national-level protected area. The pristine forests here are home to numerous rare tree species, precious medicinal herbs, and unique birds and animals. It is known as the "Insect World," "Kingdom of Snakes," "Birds' Paradise," and a "World Biosphere Reserve."

There is also Carp Mountain, located to the west of the eastern urban area and stretching from north to south. It earned its name due to its fish-like shape. What makes Carp Mountain special are its park green spaces and temple architecture, including Carp Mountain Park, Dragon and Phoenix Buddhist Temple, and the Martyrs’ Shrine, among others. Carp Mountain Park is situated at the foot of the mountain and serves as a leisure spot for locals. The garden features a unique layout, with pavilions, lotus ponds, stone benches and tables, and small bridges over flowing water, creating a very serene environment. Carp Mountain is about 222 meters high and is named for its resemblance to a carp. Nearby tourist attractions include the Golden Dragon Zen Temple, Bishan Rock, Yuanjue Temple, and Yuanjue Waterfall, among others.

To hike to Carp Mountain, you can follow the signs from the Golden Dragon Zen Temple, or take Bishan Road, pass by Bixia Temple, and walk up the stone steps. Before long, you’ll reach a saddle where four paths intersect. Choose the right path, walk past a pavilion, and continue along the stone steps to reach Carp Mountain. Now, with the completion of the Dagou Stream Trail, you can also follow the streamside path to connect with the Carp Mountain Trail, making the journey both comfortable and convenient.
