Zhu Xi’s Tomb is located in Dacungu Valley, Houtang Village, Huangkeng Town, Jianyang City. It is the joint burial site of the Song Dynasty scholar Zhu Xi and his wife, Lady Liu. The tomb is situated on a high and breezy rise, surrounded by rice paddies, offering an open and expansive view. From a distance, the surrounding mountain ridges on both sides of the tomb stretch out gracefully, resembling fluttering silk ribbons in the wind. Legend has it that Zhu Xi himself chose this auspicious feng shui site during his lifetime. The tomb complex is divided into three levels: the top level houses the burial chamber, the middle level features a round, dome-shaped tomb mound surrounded by small pebbles.

Atop the tomb mound stands a stone stele inscribed with "Tomb of Zhu Xi, the Sage of the Song Dynasty, and his Wife, Lady Liu." The second level is the tomb courtyard, which includes a rectangular stone incense burner, a stone offering table, and a pair of stone candlesticks. The third level is a rectangular lawn. In 1987, a memorial pavilion for the Zhu Xi Tomb Path was constructed here. Visitors often find themselves filled with a deep sense of historical reverence when standing in this place. Nowadays, descendants of the Zhu family from both China and overseas come to Zhu Xi’s Tomb every year to pay homage to their ancestor, expressing their respect and remembrance for their forebears.

Zhu Xi, courtesy name Yuanhui, later changed to Zhonghui, also known by his literary name Huian and alias Ziyang, was born in Wuyuan, Jiangxi, but in Youxi, Fujian. His father, Zhu Song, served as the magistrate of Youxi County during the fifth year of the Xuanhe era of the Song Dynasty (1123 AD) and, after completing his term, took up residence in the residence of Zheng Andao in Shuinan, the county. On September 15 of the fourth year of the Jianyan era (1130 AD), Zhu Xi was born. From a young age, Zhu Xi was intelligent and studious. At the age of seven, he moved with his parents to Jianzhou (now Jian’ou, Fujian). At the age of 14, following his father’s dying wish, he went to live with his father’s friends Hu Xian and Liu Mianzhi in Chongan County.
