Baoshan Qinglian Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Baoshan Qinglian Temple: Located on the southern side of Baoshan Mountain in Jianyang District, Baoshan Qinglian Temple sits atop terrain resembling a coiled green dragon and crouching tiger, with the majestic bearing of a lion facing the rising sun. Ascending to the Guanyin Pavilion at the temple’s summit offers not only a sweeping view of Jianyang District but also distant undulating mountain ranges. The temple truly embodies the phrase “welcoming thousands of worshippers by day and admiring the glow of countless household lights by night.”

Qinglian Temple was built during the Kaiyuan era of the Tang Dynasty. At that time, the surrounding area was filled with lotus fields, and when summer arrived, the lotuses bloomed in vibrant competition, creating an enchanting landscape—hence the name “Qinglian,” meaning “clear lotus.”

Baoshan Qinglian Temple was rebuilt in the winter of 1990 under the guidance of Venerable Shi Shijue, who served as the founding abbot. Through hard work and dedication by the monastic community, the temple has since been developed into a distinctive ancient-style architectural complex, including the Maitreya Hall, Mahavira Hall, Western Trinity Hall, Guanyin Pavilion, Jixiang Tower, Ruyi Tower, Five Contemplations Hall, and Haihui Pagoda. These structures feature double eaves, interlocking brackets, intricately carved beams and painted rafters, all shining in resplendent glory. The grandeur of its momentum and the magnificence of its architecture are rarely seen in northern Fujian. Today, Baoshan Qinglian Temple thrives in Buddhist activities and is the first Pure Land Buddhist practice site established in northern Fujian. The temple has cultivated scenic highlights such as “Dragon Welcoming Tiger Smiling,” “Lion Facing the Rising Sun,” “Eternal Awakening for All Beings,” “Pagoda of Gratitude,” “Scripture Chanting Soaring to the Clouds,” “Moonlight and Lantern Glow,” “Pavilions Amidst the Void,” and “Bamboo Shadows and Pine Waves.”
