Longyan Longkong Cave

Longyan Longkong Cave is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction and a cultural relic protection unit of Xinluo District.

The Longkong Cave Scenic Area in Longyan City, Fujian Province, is situated in the southern section of the Wuyi Mountain Range within Xinluo District, Longyan. It is 48 kilometers from downtown Longyan and 26 kilometers from downtown Zhangping. This is a provincial-level scenic area in Fujian. Surrounded by mountains and graced with murmuring streams, the area boasts beautiful scenery and a pleasant environment, featuring rich forest landscapes and uniquely intricate karst landforms. The scenic area spans 10 square kilometers, and its core attraction, Longkong Cave, formed 300 million years ago during the Paleozoic Era. It was shaped by three tectonic movements and intermittent evolution from an ancient ocean, making it one of China’s largest known caves. The cavern features a vast interior space, including eight main chambers, sixteen branch caves, over two thousand meters of pathways, and covers 54,000 square meters spread across three levels—upper, middle, and lower. The cave's layered structure creates a maze-like experience with caves within mountains and mountains within caves. Inside, visitors will find exquisitely developed limestone formations such as stalactites, stalagmites, and stone pillars, along with abundant draperies, flowstones, and rimstone pools. A rare underground river winds through parts of the cave, appearing and disappearing unpredictably, adding to the ancient allure of this cave, which was discovered as early as the Tang Dynasty. The cave entrance is nestled in a mountain hollow, surrounded by rugged rocks and dense forests. In autumn, the maple trees turn fiery red, creating a spectacular view. A mountain stream flows gently past the entrance, and distinctive attractions such as “Dragon Egg,” “Dragon Well,” “Dragon Claw Waterfall,” “Sleeping Lion Rock,” “Bamboo Grove,” “Ancient Forest,” and “Longkang Village” dot the landscape, forming a unique wild-style cave-and-forest scenic area.

Facilities

The scenic area enjoys convenient transportation, accessible via three roads. Among them, the newly renovated Longkang Avenue leading to Longkong Cave is a 7.4-meter-wide, high-grade cement road. The newly built Longyin Mountain Villa features innovative design and complete amenities, capable of hosting conferences and accommodating tourists for meals and lodging. The area remains cool in summer and warm in winter, making it a desirable destination for travel and summer retreats all year round, attracting both domestic and international visitors.

Longkang Village: Longkang Village is located in the southern part of Yanshi Town, Xinluo District, Longyan City, Fujian Province. The village has a population of about 260. It covers a forested (mountainous) area of approximately 7,000 mu and farmland of around 400 mu, with a total of two villager groups.
