Head to Gyeongju, Korea’s ancient capital, and explore the city on free sightseeing buses
As a royal heritage site, Gyeongju flourished as the capital of the Silla Kingdom during the Unified Silla Period. Although the kingdom eventually fell, the city remains dotted with historic sites, and structures such as stone pagodas and stone Buddhas showcase the unique artistic achievements developed from the absorption of Buddhist culture.

Located in the southern part of Korea, Gyeongju can be reached by bus from Busan or Seoul, or by train on the Donghae Nambu Line from Busan Station. Starting this June through December 31, Korea offers all international visitors one free sightseeing bus per day to “Gyeongju, Korea’s Millennium Ancient Capital” and “Jeonju, the Homeland of Korean Food Culture.” Simply apply online, with a limit of two applications per person, and easily explore Korea’s cultural treasures.
There are three sightseeing bus routes in total: Seoul to Gyeongju departs daily at 08:00 from Exit 6 of Gwanghwamun in Seoul (in front of Donghwa Duty Free Shop), arriving at Gyeongju Pohang Tourist Complex around 13:00. You can explore freely until 16:00, then return by bus from the same drop-off point, arriving back in Seoul at approximately 21:00. The Seoul to Jeonju route departs daily at 08:00 from Exit 6 of Gwanghwamun (in front of Donghwa Duty Free Shop), arriving in Jeonju around 11:00. You can explore freely until 17:00, then return by bus from the same drop-off point, arriving back in Seoul at around 20:00.

Another route from Busan to Gyeongju is scheduled to start in July, departing daily at 09:00 from Haeundae in Busan and arriving at Gyeongju Pohang Tourist Complex around 10:30. You can explore freely until 17:00, then return by bus from the same drop-off point, arriving back in Haeundae around 18:30. These three routes have a total of 8 seats each. If the number of applicants exceeds capacity on a given day, tickets will be allocated via a lottery system. The complimentary sightseeing buses also provide each passenger with one set of cultural tourism information related to Gyeongju or Jeonju, the Korea Visit Year travel guide, and a souvenir.
