Night visit to a secret garden: The Shuizhong-Checeng nighttime lighting environment is now open

Checheng, which carries forward a new lifestyle culture rooted in forestry, and Shuizhong, with its unique kiln-fired charm, are the terminal stations of the Jiji Branch Line railway. Starting June 1, the Shuizhong-Checheng nighttime lighting environment has added illumination to areas such as the Checheng Station and the log pond trail. Strolling through it, the shimmering reflections of lights on all sides make you feel as if you've entered another nocturnal world.

After the 921 earthquake, the original concrete station building at Checheng Station was demolished and rebuilt as a wooden structure. The log pond in Checheng Village was once used to soak and store logs during the logging industry era. To welcome the arrival of summer, the Shuizhong-Checheng area has been decorated with a beautiful nighttime light show, creating a delightful destination with enhanced lighting and atmosphere. Many local shops have also extended their operating hours on weekends and holidays to serve night visitors. The wooden station paired with the beautiful emerald-green waters leaves a deep impression as the “most beautiful small station” in Taiwan.

In coordination with the Tourism Bureau’s “Taiwan High Way” transit line, a free shuttle bus between Sun Moon Lake and Checheng has also been launched. The Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration provides five free round-trip services daily, starting from the Shuishe Visitor Center and stopping along the way at Xiangshan, Toushe, Snake Kiln, Shuizhong Railway Station, Shuizhong Township Farmers’ Association before arriving at Checheng. This allows visitors to enjoy the beautiful mountain and water scenery of Sun Moon Lake and then head to the lovely Checheng to revisit nostalgic railway relics, experience a variety of woodworking DIY activities, taste unique wooden barrel bento meals, and now also enjoy a nighttime light show in Shuizhong-Checheng.
