Longyan Museum
Longyan Museum was established in November 1975. It utilizes the provincial-level cultural heritage site “Former Site of the Front Committee of the Fourth Red Army of the Chinese Communist Party and Mao Zedong’s Former Residence” to house its offices and auxiliary exhibitions. It is a comprehensive museum focusing on social history and revolutionary commemoration. The museum is a state-owned institution under the jurisdiction of the Culture, Sports, and Publishing Bureau of Xinluo District, Longyan City, currently housing a collection of 5,300 cultural relics and employing 10 officially staffed personnel.
The museum is responsible for the protection, promotion, and scientific research of cultural relics in Xinluo District, the central urban area of Longyan. It features permanent exhibitions such as “Historical Traces of the People’s Revolution in Longyan” and “Folk Cultural Relics of Longyan.” In rural towns, it has established specialized thematic displays—including the Hou Tian Uprising Memorial Hall, Deng Zihui Memorial Hall, Second Detachment of the New Fourth Army Memorial Hall, Guo Diren Memorial Hall, and exhibits on the life of Confucius—using former revolutionary sites. These are open to the public year-round. In addition, the museum hosts over 20 temporary exhibitions annually, covering topics such as fine arts, calligraphy, photography, philately, and flora and fauna specimens, attracting an average of about 80,000 visitors per year.
Over the past 30-plus years since its establishment, professionals at the museum have published more than 30 valuable and influential academic papers in domestic and international journals. Among these, two research achievements have won national gold awards, five have received first or second prizes at the provincial or ministerial level, and eight have earned second or third prizes at the municipal level. Zhang Zhaosheng, the museum director, has had significant national influence in the research and authentication of postal history and stamps from the Soviet Area. He has contributed to publications such as A History of Stamps in China’s Liberated Areas – Soviet Area Volume and Volume Five of the History of Chinese Stamps, bringing honor to the country. He was appointed by the National Postal and Philatelic History Center as an expert in stamp authentication for the China Stamp Museum. His authored publication, Folk Cultural Relics of Longyan, marks the museum’s leading role in this field of scientific research among county-level museums in the province, and has also garnered considerable attention among overseas Chinese communities. Additionally, Deputy Director Xiong Weiqing won first place in the 2000 provincial-level “Gutian Cup” Tour Guide Speech Competition.
The museum houses departments including the Cultural Relics Room, Reference Room, Publicity and Reception Office, and Security Group. In addition to regular opening and reception duties, it also assists the district bureau in the protection and maintenance of 29 cultural heritage sites at the county level and above across the district. It provides voluntary authentication and consultation services for some cultural relics within its jurisdiction, and conducts special campaigns against cultural relic crimes.
Opening Hours: Every day except weekends and national holidays, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and from 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM (3:00 PM to 6:00 PM in summer).
