Tonggang Academy, the founding site of Yan Sheng Newspaper, is a Fujian Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit and a classic red tourism attraction.

Tonggang Academy, the founding site of Yan Sheng Newspaper, is located within Dongxiao Town Central Primary School in Xinluo District, Longyan City, dating back to 1921.

Description: Built in the 丙戌 year of the Qianlong reign during the Qing Dynasty (1786), it faces south with a north orientation, features an earth-and-wood structure, and covers an area of 1,050 square meters. Along the central axis are, in sequence, enclosing walls, a gray-paved area, the main gate, the front hall, a courtyard, the middle hall, the main hall, and the rear courtyard. The middle hall is 14 meters wide, 6 meters deep, and 5 meters high, with a post-and-lintel wooden frame and a single-eave hip-and-gable roof. On both sides are wing rooms, and inside the main gate is a corridor connecting to the middle hall. In the spring of 1921, Deng Zihui, Chen Ming, Zhang Duqi, and others organized the progressive reading club "Qishan Book Society" here. In September 1923, based on the book society, the first publication in western Fujian to promote Marxism-Leninism, the Yan Sheng Newspaper, was founded, exerting a profound influence on the revolution in western Fujian.

Protected area: The drip lines on the east, south, and west sides of the building and the stone foundation on the north side are each extended outward by 20 meters.

In 2018, Tonggang Academy, the founding site of Yan Sheng Newspaper, was designated as part of the ninth batch of Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Units by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.
