Tianhou Temple of Quanxi

The Tianhou Temple of Quanxi is a cultural heritage site protected by Xinluo District.

The Tianhou Temple of Quanxi is located in Nanyu Group, Nan Yan Village, Dachi Town, Xinluo District, Longyan City, Fujian Province. Originally built in the second year of the Longqing era of the Ming Dynasty (1568), it faces east and covers an area of 938 square meters. The structure is a two-courtyard, two-wing-room building with an additional right-side room, constructed of earth and timber. Along the central axis from east to west are: a pond, a lime-paved courtyard, the main gate, the front hall, a patio, the rear hall. The rear hall is two bays wide and five meters deep, with a central screen wall enshrining the Goddess Mazu. Behind the screen is a wooden staircase leading to the top floor of a four-story tower. The front and rear halls are connected by corridors on both sides, with a door in the center of the right corridor leading to the side room. On either side of the main gate are drum-shaped stone blocks, and the hanging beams are adorned with a pair of carved wooden spandrels. The courtyard features 16 murals depicting figures, animals, and flowers and birds, all exquisitely painted. This building is unique and finely crafted, providing valuable physical material for the study of Mazu culture and religious architecture in our district. In 2001, it was designated as a third batch county-level cultural heritage site by the People’s Government of Xinluo District.

Nan Yan Village: Located in the southwestern part of Dachi Town, Xinluo District, Nan Yan Village is about 2 kilometers from the Dachi Town government and National Highway 319. It borders Yajin Village to the east, Huangmei Village to the west, and Dashan Village to the north. To the south, the village’s mountainous area connects with Hejia Village. It is primarily an agricultural and livestock-focused administrative village. The village has 8 villager groups, over 430 households, and a population of around 1,700, with cultivated land covering more than 1,800 mu. The village is home to one Mazu temple that has been listed as a cultural heritage site by the city and district governments, commonly referred to as the “Tianhou Temple of Quanxi.” With a history of over 500 years, the temple is grand and beautifully built, surrounded by a tranquil environment of mountains and water...
