Ch'ihoi Taiping Bridge

The Ch'ihoi Taiping Bridge is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Ch'ihoi Bridge is located on the Xiguan Post Road in Ch'ihoi Town, Dingyuan County, Anhui Province.

Originally named the Taiping Bridge and also known as the Beiheng Bridge, it majestically spans the winding Ch'ihoi River. The initial design of the Ch'ihoi Taiping Bridge was ingeniously crafted. Built with brick and stone, it features white marble railings, with 18 stone lions carved at each end on the eastern and western sides, making it extremely grand and aesthetically pleasing. The construction employed the dry-laid method, using piled earth to construct the bridge arches. Because the riverbed is covered with thick sand and stones, each bridge pier is supported by a dense array of wooden piles, referred to as "Ten-Thousand-Year Piles." The piers are built with red large slabs as edge stones and constructed using an arch technique, poured with a mixture of glutinous rice paste and lime, with rough, short stones or broken bricks used to fill the interior—making the structure remarkably sturdy.

On October 7, 2019, the Ch'ihoi Taiping Bridge was included in the eighth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.

Protected area: With the center of the bridge as the base point, 80 meters to the east and west, and 50 meters to the south and north.

Construction control zone: 40 meters to the east, south, west, and north beyond the protected area.

Ch'ihoi Town: Ch'ihoi Town is located 26 kilometers east of Dingyuan County on Provincial Highway 311. It covers an area of 104.2 square kilometers with a population of 40,000, serving as the political, economic, cultural, and commercial hub for seven surrounding towns.

Ch'ihoi Town has convenient transportation, connecting to the Beijing-Shanghai Railway and National Highway 104 to the east, and linking to the Hefei-Xuzhou Expressway and the Huainan Railway to the west, with Provincial Highway 311 running east-west through the town.
