The Tomb of Dong Huai is a cultural relic protection unit in Dingyuan County.

The Tomb of Dong Huai is located within Jianzhu Primary School in Dingcheng Town, Dingyuan County. Dating back to the Song Dynasty, it is categorized as an ancient tomb with an area of 176 square meters. It is among the first batch of cultural relics protection units in Dingyuan County, with the official announcement number Ding Zheng Zi [1992] No. 37.

Protected area: centered around the original tomb mound, extends 20 meters east, 10 meters west, 10 meters south to the classroom, and 20 meters north.

Dong Huai (?–1262), courtesy name Tingzhi, was a Southern Song Dynasty official and served as prime minister during Emperor Lizong’s reign. A native of Dingyuan County, he was tall and sturdy, with a broad forehead, full cheeks, and handsome whiskers. In his youth, he had a passion for military affairs and loved reading the works of Sun Wu and Cao Cao. He was ambitious and often said to others, “If I am given a chance, I will sweep across the Central Plains and restore them to the emperor.” He also aspired to be someone like Zhuge Liang or Zhou Yu. His father, Dong Yong, was strict with his son’s education and disapproved of his arrogance. He admonished him: “If you don’t study hard and keep talking big with such arrogance, I don’t want you to become like that.” After being taught by his father, Dong Huai felt ashamed and then devoted himself to his studies.
