Luyang Dongpu National Wetland Park is a national-level wetland park.

The proposed Anhui Luyang Dongpu National Wetland Park is located in the western part of Luyang District, Hefei City, Anhui Province. The planned area includes the Nanfei River, Dongpu Reservoir, and their first- and second-level water source protection zones. It stretches from the confluence of tributaries of the Nanfei River in the west to the dam of Dongpu Reservoir in the east, and from SanGuo Cheng Road in the north to the southern boundary of the first-level water source protection zone of the reservoir (excluding the SanGuo New City Ruins Park, Science Island, and the northern access road to the island).

The total planned area is 4,667.43 hectares, of which 2,949.79 hectares are wetlands, accounting for a wetland ratio of 63.20%. It includes two major types of wetlands: river wetlands and artificial wetlands, comprising three wetland subtypes: permanent river wetlands, floodplain wetlands, and reservoir/pond wetlands. The wetland park features lush vegetation and rich biodiversity, with 331 species of higher plants from 241 genera and 86 families, including the nationally protected wild plant Glycine soja. There are also 144 species of vertebrates from 52 families and 25 orders, including the nationally protected animals, the Tundra Swan and the Tiger Frog.

Dongpu National Wetland Park is an urban wetland park primarily focused on ecological conservation, with its main conservation target being the high-quality water resources of Hefei’s drinking water supply. Based on the characteristics of its resources and the current state of the ecological environment, the wetland park is divided into five functional zones: wetland conservation, restoration and reconstruction, education and exhibition, rational utilization, and management services.

In December 2014, the park was approved as a provincial-level wetland park by the Anhui Provincial Forestry Department, and a dedicated management organization was established. On this basis, the Luyang District Government has actively promoted the establishment of a national wetland park, increasing funding and policy support to lay a solid foundation for the park’s construction. In the future, it will become a green water source for ecological conservation in the Yangtze River Economic Belt; a buffer station for water environmental safety in the Chaohu Lake Basin; an ecological paradise for the breeding and habitation of rare bird species; and a model for urban wetland conservation and utilization in the Yangtze River Delta city cluster...
