Hefei Masses Theater refers to the "Masses Theater" of the Anhui Provincial Drama Theater located in Hefei’s Qunyi Lane. Since its establishment in 1953, this historic theater has witnessed the development of Anhui’s spoken drama scene, nurtured generations of actors, and produced timeless classic plays and unforgettable memories for audiences. On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Anhui Provincial Drama Theater, the "Masses Theater" brand will continue to serve the public and promote the inheritance and development of the spoken drama art.

The Anhui Provincial Drama Theater was formerly known as the Anhui Provincial Drama Troupe, established on March 23, 1953. It was renamed the Anhui Provincial Drama Theater on July 18, 2007. The theater currently employs 162 staff members, including 97 retirees. Among them, 64 hold senior or higher professional titles, with 23 at the top level. Five staff members enjoy the State Council Special Allowance, one has been recognized as an Outstanding Expert by the Ministry of Culture, two have won China Drama’s “Golden Lion Award for Actors,” one has received the China Drama’s “Golden Lion Award for Directors,” one has been elected as a National People’s Congress deputy, and one serves as a member of the Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.

Over the past fifty-plus years, the Anhui Provincial Drama Theater has created and adapted more than eighty large-scale plays. It has participated multiple times in national drama observation performances, national drama festivals, as well as East China and Anhui provincial drama festivals, winning various awards. In 1954, the production of *Spring Breeze Blows to Nuo’min River* was hailed by experts and audiences as a successful performance that “brought the fragrance of the soil to the metropolis.” It made its debut on the stage of Shanghai and earned unanimous praise from peers in the East China region. In 1956, during the first National Drama Observation Performance, our theater’s one-act plays *The Return* and *The Struggle* won the Ministry of Culture’s First Prize for Performance, First Prize for Script, and multiple awards for directing, acting, and stage design. The plays were also specially invited by the State Council to perform on the stage of Huairen Hall in Zhongnanhai for Chairman Mao and other national leaders.
