Lu'an Confucius Temple — Former Site of the Anhui Provincial General Mobilization Committee for Anti-Japanese Resistance is a protected cultural heritage site of Anhui Province.

The former site of the Anhui Provincial General Mobilization Committee is located in Chengguan, Lu'an City, dating back to 1938. This site was originally the Lu'an Confucius Temple, and currently consists of the central and rear main halls, as well as the east and west corridors.

During the War of Resistance, the Nationalist Government announced in November of the 26th year of the Republic (1937) that Li Zongren would be appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Fifth War Zone and concurrently Chairman of Anhui Province. In February of the following year, he arrived in Lu'an, then the provincial capital, to take office, where he established the “Fifth War Zone General Mobilization Committee for the People,” which was later renamed the “Anhui Provincial General Mobilization Committee for Anti-Japanese Resistance.” Li Zongren also served as the Director of the committee, with Zhu Yunshan, Zhou Xinmin, Shen Yuxiu, Zhang Jingfu, Di Chaobai, and Chang Fanhou overseeing specific tasks. This committee was an organization of the anti-Japanese national united front, representing people from all social strata. Its primary mission was to lead the anti-Japanese mass movement in a unified manner and to organize civilians through various means to assist the government and military in waging a comprehensive war against Japan. To strengthen the leadership of the committee, the Chinese Communist Party successively assigned a large number of its members, including Zhang Jingfu and Zhou Xinmin, to work within the mobilization committees and work groups at various levels.

At that time, the actual leadership of the mobilization committee was in the hands of underground party members and progressive individuals, which enabled the anti-Japanese mobilization movement to spread widely across Anhui and played a significant role in implementing the Party’s strategy of the anti-Japanese national united front.

Cultural Heritage Protection

Lu'an Confucius Temple — Former Site of the Anhui Provincial General Mobilization Committee for Anti-Japanese Resistance was designated as a Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit of Anhui Province by the Anhui Provincial People's Government in May 1998.
