Hongshanzhai Tourist Area

Hongshanzhai Tourist Area is located in Hongshan Village and Taipingqiao Village, Zhangdian Town, in the southern mountainous region of Jin'an District, Lu'an City. It is 30 kilometers from downtown Lu'an and about 7 kilometers from Zhangdian Town. The area borders the Wanxi Great Rift Valley Scenic Spot. Its main peak, Hongshanzhai, stands at an elevation of 291.2 meters, making it the second highest peak in the region. With three steep sides, numerous caves and rugged terrain. The famous Changyan (the largest cave in western Anhui) is located on its northern side. To its west lie the ruins of Jiulong Temple. A branch of the Hong family of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom’s Hong Xiuquan settled here, giving the area its name. The scenic area boasts rich biodiversity, deep valleys, hanging vines, and numerous unusual rock formations. In addition to thousands of acres of forest, there is also the rippling Hongshan Reservoir. The Hongshanzhai Tourist Scenic Area spans from the Taohuaxi River basin in the east, bordering the Wanxi Great Rift Valley, to the Hongshan Reservoir in the west, from the village road in the north to Xiangsizhai and Taipingzhai in the south. It includes mountains, valleys, gullies, forests, farmland, and rivers. The total area is approximately 15 square kilometers.
