Fangchang County Martyrs' Cemetery

Fangchang County Martyrs' Cemetery is a national AA-level tourist attraction, a cultural tourism site, and a classic red tourism destination.

Fangchang County Martyrs' Cemetery was built in 1984 and is located on Eshantou in the southern part of Fangchang County, Wuhu City.

The cemetery covers an area of 130,000 square meters and consists of commemorative structures including the Martyrs' Monument, Memorial Tower, Martyrs' Cemetery, Martyrs' Deeds Exhibition Hall, and Mourning Platform.

The Revolutionary Martyrs' Deeds Exhibition Hall, with a total floor area of 982 square meters, is a two-story building. Within the over 800-square-meter exhibition space on the two floors, historical materials about the revolutionary struggles in Fangchang and even Southern Anhui during various revolutionary periods are displayed; these include portraits and biographical accounts of 645 martyrs as well as some of their personal belongings. It features historical materials on the “Five Defenses of Fangchang” commanded by Tan Zhenlin with the Third Detachment of the New Fourth Army during the Anti-Japanese War; the heroic stories of Soviet advisor Sutofu, Luo Feng, and others who were brutally persecuted by the enemy; the history of the “Advance Crossing Detachment” consisting of over 300 soldiers from the 27th Army of the People’s Liberation Army and the “First Crossing Boat,” which were supported by the military and civilians in the Nanfangwu region; as well as the deeds of the brave sons and daughters of Fangchang who sacrificed their lives during the Korean War and the counterattack in self-defense against Vietnam after the founding of the People’s Republic.

Fangchang County Martyrs' Cemetery has been designated as a “Patriotic Education Base” by the People’s Government of Anhui Province, the People’s Government of Wuhu City, and the People’s Government of Fangchang County. In 2007, it was awarded AA-level scenic area status by the Wuhu Municipal Bureau of Tourism.
