The Marenqifeng Forest Tourism Area is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

The Marenqifeng Forest Tourism Area is located in Fanchang County, Wuhu City, Anhui Province. As a provincial-level forest park and a national AAAA-level tourist attraction, it lies at the junction of Fanchang, Tongling, and Nanling counties on the southern bank of the Yangtze River. Situated in the central part of southern Anhui’s tourism belt, it is known as the “Gateway to Southern Anhui.” With its majestic peaks and lush forests, it is a splendid highlight along the picturesque 800-li (approximately 400 km) Yangtze River scenery of southern Anhui.

Marenqifeng enjoys a superior location and convenient transportation. It is 438 km from Shanghai, 150 km from Nanjing, 180 km from Hefei, 80 km from Xuancheng, and 50 km from Wuhu. National Highways 318 and 205 run through the area, and the exit of the under-construction Yangtze River Expressway is just 20 km away from the scenic spot.

Maren Mountain features abrupt terrain, striking peaks, and unique landforms. Its distinctive landscape is characterized by peculiar peaks and rocks, lush trees and bamboos, rare birds, and ancient temples with murmuring springs—offering a scene that is serene, precipitous, elegant, and marvelous.

Marenqifeng has a subtropical climate with mild weather year-round. The annual average temperature is 15.9°C. The seasons are distinct, with long winters and summers but short springs and autumns. The air is moist, and sunlight is abundant. The area boasts rich flora and fauna, including rare animals such as eagles, ring-necked pheasants, river deer, sika deer, giant salamanders, white-faced foxes, pangolins, and squirrels. There are over 600 species of plants across 68 families, including dozens of varieties of natural woody flowers and grasses. The forest is dense, with a coverage rate of 95%, remaining green all year round.

The area features abrupt mountain terrain, striking peaks, and unique landforms. Its distinctive landscape is shaped by vividly shaped peaks and rocks, lush trees and bamboos, rare birds and animals, and ancient temples with murmuring springs—forming the four major characteristics of Marenqifeng: serenity, precipitousness, elegance, and wonder. It embodies the grandeur of Huangshan, the grace of Wuyi, the layered misty beauty of Jiuhua, and the rugged rock formations of Yandang, while also retaining a rare simplicity and natural charm seldom found in famous mountains and rivers. It is famed for its six major wonders.

Marvelous Peaks: Lu Xun Peak and Camel Peak, each strikingly lifelike; Great Leader Mountain and Dragon-Tiger Mountain, both remarkably realistic. Marvelous Cliffs: Maren Stone Cliff, where green moss and ancient vines adorn the sheer face, making it radiant. Marvelous Columns: Maren Stone Column, standing alone like a pillar holding up the sky, a unique sight in southern China. Marvelous Caves: Sun Cave and Moon Cave, facing each other from afar, complementing one another beautifully. Marvelous House: Maren Stone House, a marvel of nature, formed as if by divine craftsmanship. Marvelous Trees: Forests of nanmu and paper mulberry, each stand-out in beauty; the Guest-Greeting Nanmu and the Intertwined Trees, each uniquely remarkable.

The Marenqifeng mountain range runs from north to south, with the mountain ridge forming a W-shape. The scenic area is divided into five sections: the Gate Tower, Maren Temple, Sun Mountain, Moon Mountain, and Nanmu Forest. Each section has its own distinctive style and beautiful scenery.

Known as the “Gateway to Southern Anhui,” Marenqifeng features rising peaks, scattered peculiar rocks, steep cliffs, and radiant cliffs, earning it the reputation of being the “Zhangjiajie of Southern Anhui and the Little Huangshan by the River.”
