Shancheng Yanxi Drifting Scenic Area

The Yanxi Drifting Scenic Area is located in Yanxi Village, Dayan Township, Shitai County. It is a highlight at the junction of the Guniujiang Scenic Area and the Xianyu Mountain Scenic Area, about 15 kilometers from the county town. Here, rolling green mountains, picturesque scenery, lush vegetation, and delightful views create a charming environment. While drifting on the raft, you can enjoy numerous beautiful sights along the way, including emerald waters and green hills, rural farmhouses, idyllic fields, and ancient tea plantations, and truly experience the poetic ambiance described by the line “Lost in hills, doubtful if there's a way out; past willows and bright blooms, a village appears anew.” The source of the Yanxi River lies in the upper reaches of the Qiu Pu River, which earned its name because “its stream is clear and blue, resembling autumn all year long.” Due to the steep peaks along both riverbanks and the shimmering water surface, “the scenery throughout the four seasons resembles that of Xiaoxiang and Dongting Lakes” (from the *Ming Dynastic Gazetteer*). This place has long captivated many scholars and poets, inspiring numerous verses.
