Gouting Site

The Gouting Site is a cultural heritage protection unit of Anhui Province.

The Gouting Site is located in Gouting Village, Jitan Township, Shitai County, Chizhou City, Anhui Province.

The site covers an area of approximately 22,500 square meters, with a cultural deposit layer about 0.3–0.5 meters thick. It was designated as a provincial-level cultural heritage protection unit on June 21, 2012. Artifacts collected from the surface of the site include pottery shards and stone tools, such as flaked scrapers, choppers, pointed tools, and ground stone net sinkers, adzes, chisels, knives, axes, arrowheads, spades, and semi-finished products from that period. Among pottery artifacts, only sandy red pottery tripod feet have been found. In terms of quantity, flaked stone tools outnumber ground stone tools, which in turn outnumber pottery shards. In terms of types, flaked stone tools, ground stone tools, and pottery coexist, with scrapers being the most prevalent.

This site is the first early Neolithic site discovered in southern Anhui and holds significant value for studying the activities of ancient humans in the early Neolithic period of southern China.

Protected area: extends south to the tractor road, 50 meters west and north respectively, and east to Provincial Highway S211.
