King Kong Park

King Kong Park is located on the northeast side of the intersection of Zhongshan Road and Haihe East Road (next to King Kong Bridge). In the 21st year of the Guangxu reign (1895), a coastal defense office was built here, which was later converted into an imperial parade palace for Empress Dowager Cixi’s inspection of troops in Tianjin but was never used. In the 28th year of the Guangxu reign (1902), Yuan Shikai, then Governor-General of Zhili and Minister of Beiyang, moved the office of the Zhili Governor-General here to implement new policies and develop the Hebei New District. It later served as the site of the Zhili Provincial Government and the Hebei Provincial Government. In July 1937, it was bombed into ruins by the invading Japanese army. After liberation, it was reconstructed, and the compound now features classical-style architecture and a miniature replica of the King Kong Bridge.

During the park’s upgrade and renovation, relevant departments in Hebei District carefully planned and organized the project, adhering to high-level design and quality construction, with a focus on people-oriented principles and a rational layout to create a uniquely distinctive landscape. As King Kong Park is a modern-style street-side park, the design and construction incorporated a clever arrangement of garden plants, rockeries, water features, and scenic stones, fully reflecting a modern, minimalist, and dignified traditional Chinese landscape garden style. The improvements were carried out rationally without disrupting the overall internal structure.

It is understood that the renovated King Kong Park has enhanced four main areas: the central scenic zone, fitness and sports plaza, rockery fountain, and cultural corridor. Its standout features include expanded public gathering spaces, newly built eco-wooden plazas and a cultural corridor, essentially achieving the effect of having a scenic view at every step. It provides residents with a beautiful leisure environment and has become a striking attraction along the Haihe River scenic belt and on Zhongshan Road.
