Huaining Chenghe Site

The Huaining Chenghe Site is a cultural relic protection unit of Anhui Province.

The Chenghe Site is located in Chenghe Village, Miao Temple Town, Huaining County.

The site is surrounded by water on all sides, forming an island in the water, with high ground around it resembling city walls. The cultural deposits at the site are about 1 to 4 meters thick, with a layer of sandy gravel sandwiched within the cultural layers. Artifacts found include sand-gray pottery shards, gray-sand red pottery shards, stamped hard pottery shards, tripod feet, li tripod feet, etc., with decorative patterns such as rope patterns and string patterns, dating back to the Shang and Zhou dynasties. Legend has it that during the Three Kingdoms period, Cao Cao passed by this place while on a military campaign and gave birth to Cao Pi here, hence the name derived from child-rearing.

Protected area: The outer edge of the moat embankment surrounding the site.

Construction control zone: A 20-meter perimeter beyond the protected area.

Miao Temple Town: Adjacent to the new county town, gazing affectionately at Tianzhu Mountain, just a stone’s throw from Anqing City, and standing in the distance toward Yellow Crane Tower — this is Miao Temple Town of Huaining County, situated at the junction of Tongcheng, Huaining, and Qianshan (counties/cities). The town covers a total area of 80 square kilometers, with 32,000 mu of arable land, 13 administrative villages, 3 neighborhood committees, and a total population of 46,000. It has 39 grassroots Party organizations and currently 1,329 Party members.
