Former Site of Xinkaihe Railway Station

The former site of Xinkaihe Railway Station is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Tianjin North Railway Station is located in Hebei District, Tianjin, China. It was originally a second-class station under the Beijing Railway Bureau Group. When Yuan Shikai, then Governor-General of Zhili and Minister of Beiyang, established his government office at the head of Jinguang Bridge on Dajing Road (now Zhongshan Road), the station was built to implement new policies, prosper the new Hebei District, and break free from the foreign concessions' control over the Old Dragon's Head Railway Station. In 1903, during the late Qing Dynasty, it was initially named Xinkaihe Railway Station, and was also known as Tianjin City Railway Station and Tianjin New Station. By 1912, during the Republic of China period, it was renamed Tianjin General Station, reflecting its prominent status in Tianjin at the time. A few years ago, Tianjin North Railway Station resumed operations and now handles passenger services to several destinations.

Originally called Xinkaihe Railway Station, it was later known as Tianjin City Railway Station, Hebei New Station, Tianjin New Station, and Tianjin General Station, before being renamed to its current name during the War of Resistance against Japan.

On October 7, 2019, the former site of Xinkaihe Railway Station was included in the eighth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.
