Gangwei Road Christian Church was completed in 1935 and belonged to the American Congregational Church of Christianity. The construction costs were jointly donated by both Chinese and foreign worshippers. In 1937, when Japanese troops invaded Tianjin, foreign pastors left, Pastor Wei Zhenyu was transferred to Beijing, and Pastor Huo Peixiu took over. Until after the liberation, Tianjin’s Christian churches were consolidated into four locations, one of which was Gangwei Road Church. In December 1993, the church underwent renovation and held a rededication ceremony. It now has a regular congregation of about 300 people.

Gangwei Road Christian Church covers a site area of 325.2 square meters, with a building area of 643.34 square meters. It is a brick-and-wood structure, three stories high with a semi-basement. The building faces south and is rectangular in shape, approximately 25 meters long and 13 meters wide, consisting of a worship hall, sanctuary, and bell tower. The walls are built with kiln-mouth bricks, the roof is double-sloped, and the doors and windows feature solid arches. A cross emblem is mounted on the front facade.
