Former Site of the Shunzhi Water Conservancy Commission

The former site of the Shunzhi Water Conservancy Commission is a protected cultural heritage site of Tianjin.

The former site of the Shunzhi Water Conservancy Commission is located at No. 24 Ziyou Road, Hebei District, Tianjin. In 1918, the commission was established here under the leadership of Xiong Xiling, former Premier of the Beiyang Government. In 1928, it was reorganized into the North China Water Conservancy Commission. By 1929, its jurisdiction was clearly defined as covering river and lake basins as well as coastal areas in North China. The Dagukou Height Datum was established in 1931 in front of the first step of the commission’s courtyard. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, it was restructured into the North China Water Conservancy Engineering Bureau. The site is a large two-story brick-and-wood structure with a semi-basement and a three-story tower at its center, laid out in an “L” shape.
