Gangwei Road Church

Gangwei Road Church is located at No. 27 Gangwei Road, Hebei District, adjacent to Tianjin Zhongshan Park. It was affiliated with the former Tianjin Christian Congregational Church Council (Diocese) and the North China Christian Federation, and is an American Congregational church. It once served as the central church of the American Congregationalists in Tianjin, as well as the central church of the Tianjin Chinese Christian Congregational Church.

The Gangwei Road Christian Church is a brick-and-wood structure, three stories high with a semi-basement. It faces south and has a rectangular shape, approximately 25 meters long and 13 meters wide, consisting of the worship hall, sanctuary, and bell tower. The walls are built with kiln-mouth bricks, with uniformly applied "bump" decorations on the surface. The roof is double-sloped, and the doors and windows feature solid arches with fist-like shapes. The worship hall has a double-sloped roof, with the exterior walls made of clear-glazed Liugang bricks. The exterior features various window styles including pointed arches, round arches, and square shapes. A large cross stands atop the front facade. It is a historically protected building of general heritage grade.

The originally built Gangwei Road Church and its auxiliary buildings covered a total area of 3.9 mu. In addition to the church, a pastor’s residence was constructed. The church building is exquisitely and beautifully designed, with a prominently displayed large cross at the most eye-catching part of the front façade.
