Citang Lake

Citang Lake is an important part of the Bailang Lake Scenic Area in the southern part of Tongling City. It consists of two sections, eastern and western Citang Lake, bordered to the north by Guangrong Avenue, to the south by Qingtong River, to the east by Tonggui Highway, and to the west by the Yangtze River. With a natural water surface area of about 1,200 mu, it is a scenic area integrating aquaculture, fishing, and leisure. Currently, it has been developed to include attractions such as the Shuikou site, a tourism goods wharf, a temple culture park, and a senior citizens' apartment. The lake area and its surroundings are shaded by green trees, with mountains and water complementing each other, possessing natural potential for landscape creation. In recent years, the Party Committee and government of Datong Town have attached great importance to the ecological environment construction and protection of the Citang Lake scenic area, continuously improving the development environment and conditions of the scenic area. They commissioned the Provincial Urban and Rural Planning and Design Institute to formulate a detailed plan for the Citang Lake Scenic Area, proposing the overall concept of "fully protecting and relying on the mountain-water environment, tapping humanistic resources, and reflecting the characteristics of the times." Their goal is to develop Citang Lake into a leisure and holiday scenic area offering distinctive outings for Tongling City and surrounding regions, as well as a transit hub for the “Two Mountains and One Lake” (Jiuhua Mountain, Huangshan Mountain, and Taihu Lake) tourism area. Due to reasons such as land freeze, some attractions and facilities in the scenic area, including an antique food street, vacation and entertainment venues, specialty hotels, a fishing garden, Datong Square, and the western scenic area entrance parking lot, have not yet been completed, and the overall functionality has not been fully realized.

Datong Town: Datong is a famous town in the Jiangnan region with a history of a thousand years. Located in the southwest of Tongling City, it lies on the southern bank of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. To the northwest, it faces Zongyang across the river, and to the south, it borders Guichi and Qingyang via the Qingtong River. It is only 180 kilometers away from Huangshan, known as the “World Park,” and 90 kilometers from Jiuhua Mountain, one of China’s four major Buddhist mountains. Tongqing Highway, Tonggui Highway, the Yangtze River Expressway, and the Hefei–Tongling–Huangshan Expressway all run through the town, making it a hub and key passage for entering and exiting the southern Anhui tourism area. It serves as the northern gateway to Anhui’s “Two Mountains and One Lake” (Jiuhua Mountain, Huangshan Mountain, and Taihu Lake) and is the location of the first gate of Jiuhua Mountain.
