A limited-edition purple flower sea: romantic blooms of lavender sage

The weather is perfect, making it a great time for many families to go out and enjoy the flowers. Nowadays, you don’t have to head to the suburbs to admire a romantic sea of flowers—there’s a vast expanse of gorgeous purple blooms right in Taipei City. Located between Taipei City Hall and Civic Square, the enchanting lavender sage blooms are as captivating as lavender fields in Hokkaido, with their large swaths of light purple beauty that mesmerize all who see them.

Lavender sage is a perennial herbaceous flower native to North America, growing about 50 to 80 centimeters tall. Its entire plant is covered with fine hairs, and its leaves are ovate to long lanceolate in shape. The flowers grow at the top, forming a verticillaster raceme, commonly in purple, with white varieties also available. It is often confused with lavender, which has shorter flower spikes and smaller, more slender leaves that do not grow well in Taiwan’s plains. Lavender sage, on the other hand, can bloom year-round, mainly planted from autumn to spring.
