The wind blows as if golden rain is falling — the Cassia fistula flower season in Tainan has begun

Every late May to early June is the beautiful season when Cassia fistula flowers are in full bloom in Tainan. Golden clusters of the blossoms hang throughout many urban and suburban areas of Tainan City. When the wind blows, it’s as if golden rain is falling, adorning the entire city in stunning beauty, making it look like a resplendent golden town.

Since 2008, the Tourism Bureau has held the Cassia fistula Flower Season event annually at the Hutoupi Scenic Area, sharing this beautiful and dreamy floral landscape with more people. In recent years, through promotional efforts, the Tainan Cassia fistula Flower Season has gradually gained recognition, becoming the nation’s only themed event centered around Cassia fistula flowers. It has successfully invigorated the local economy around flower viewing spots and created economic benefits for the areas and their vicinities.

Chen Chun-an, Director of Tainan Tourism Bureau, stated that the Cassia fistula Flower Season had been held even before the municipal and county merger. This year, they have specially selected 12 flower viewing hotspots across 7 districts to create a Tainan Cassia fistula Flower Viewing Map, offering the public great spots for leisurely walks. The Cassia fistula tree originates from tropical countries, and its blossoms are exceptionally beautiful and therapeutic. Especially when the trees are covered with golden blooms and the ground is carpeted with fallen petals, it becomes an absolutely breathtaking scene. The public can use the flower street map to discover the beauty of Tainan.

Cassia fistula flowers in Tainan City can be found throughout both urban and suburban areas. Popular flower viewing spots include the Lotus Pond and Zhaowan Cottage in Baihe District, the Hutoupi Scenic Area in Xinhua District, Far East University and the southern end of Shuguh Boulevard (County Road 135) in Xinfeng District, the section of Minsheng Road near Changrong Road in Xinying District, the Golden Tunnel on Dongfeng Road in North District, the Barker Memorial Park in East District, Sections 2 and 3 of LinSen Road and the red brick pathway on the east side of NCKU’s Ziqiang Campus, as well as the Tainan University Fucheng Campus and the area near Zhongyi Elementary School in Central and West Districts — totaling seven districts and 12 locations.

The Cassia fistula Flower Street Map details introductions to flower viewing spots, transportation information such as bus routes and bicycle rentals, nearby recommended attractions, and suggested itineraries. Aside from creating an event website for easy online access, the Tourism Bureau has also produced 50,000 printed folded brochures, which are available at all of the city’s tourist service centers, district offices near flower viewing spots, nearby highway service areas, local shops, information kiosks, and 142 7-Eleven convenience stores around the flower streets. The public is welcome to pick them up and use the map to uncover the beautiful secrets of Tainan’s Cassia fistula flowers.
