Phoenix Mountain Copper Mine Site
The Phoenix Mountain Copper Mine Site is a cultural relic protection unit of Anhui Province.
The Phoenix Mountain Copper Mine Site is located in Nanling County and Tongling City, Anhui Province.
Nearly 100 smelting and mining sites have been discovered. Among them, four locations—Muyushan and Jinniudong in Tongling City, and Jiangmuchong and Taliimu in Nanling County—have yielded important relics such as vertical steel-smelting furnaces from the Western Zhou and Spring and Autumn periods, ore-roasting kilns and circular copper-smelting pits from the Tang and Song dynasties, and underground mining sites from the Han and Tang dynasties. Artifacts unearthed include copper ingots, bronze ware, ironware, and pottery. The site has been in use from the early Western Zhou Dynasty all the way to the Song Dynasty, spanning more than two thousand years, and holds significant importance for the study of ancient metallurgical history and the socio-economic history of the lower Yangtze region.
