The Tangjiadun Site

The Tangjiadun Site is a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level.

Tangjiadun is located 100 meters southwest of Zhushan Group, Qijing Village, Zhoutan Town, in the suburbs of Tongling City, Anhui Province. It is a cultural relic protection unit of Anhui Province. In October 2019, it was included in the eighth batch of Major Historical and Cultural Sites Protected at the National Level.

During the second national cultural relics survey in 1986, cultural relics such as pottery li tripod feet and spinning whorls were found on the surface and in the cross-section of the site. In July 1987, when workers from a kiln were excavating soil, they unearthed an exquisitely crafted bronze square yi with a taotie pattern from the Western Zhou Dynasty, which was designated as a first-class cultural relic. In 1989, an excavation of 200 square meters at the Tangjiadun Site yielded over a hundred artifacts including pottery, stone tools, and bronze ware.

The Tangjiadun Site is a settlement site from the Shang and Zhou dynasties, taking the form of a rectangular terrace that is higher in the north and lower in the south, standing 3–5 meters above the surrounding ground. It covers a total area of 13,407 square meters, with a cultural layer about 3 meters thick.

The Tangjiadun Site is of great significance for the study of Shang and Zhou culture in the Jianghuai region.

In 2019, the Tangjiadun Site was included in the eighth batch of Major Historical and Cultural Sites Protected at the National Level.

Protected Area: 20 meters east, south, west, and north of the site.

Construction Control Zone: 10 meters east, south, west, and north of the protected area.

Qijing Village: Located in the northwest of Zhoutan Town, about 1 kilometer from the town government, Qijing Village is traversed by the Zhou-Wu Highway through its central area. The village currently has a population of 3,593, comprising 918 households, with 8 natural villages and 11 villager groups.
