Xixing Wharf and Guotanghang Architectural Complex

The Xixing Wharf and Guotanghang Architectural Complex is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Zhejiang Province.

Along the Guanhe River in Xixing Old Street, Binjiang District, you can find many well-preserved "guotanghang" — one- or two-story buildings with modest storefronts that resemble inns or shops.

As early as the Western Jin Dynasty, the Xixing Canal was dug, and the docks in this area were known as the best in eastern Zhejiang. A unique industry emerged here — the "guotanghang." The guotanghang primarily served as hubs for bill exchanges and cargo transshipment. Today, many guotanghang buildings still stand in Xixing Old Street, most of which date back to the late Qing Dynasty and early Republican period. Examples include the Shen Weiquan Guotanghang and the structures at No. 102, 103, and 104 Guanhe Road, all of which directly bear witness to the development and prosperity of the canal.

Xixing Subdistrict: Located at the eastern gateway of Binjiang District, Xixing Subdistrict is home to the district’s administrative center. It borders Beigan Subdistrict of Xiaoshan to the east, faces Xianghu Lake to the south, neighbors Changhe Subdistrict to the west, and looks out to the Qiantang River to the north. The area features the Olympic Sports and Expo Center and the Internet of Things Industrial Park to the north, the Beitan Riverfront and the Xixing Old Street Historical Conservation Area in the central part, and the district industrial park along with the Baima Lake Eco-Creative City to the south. It is a core development zone within the High-Tech Zone (Binjiang). Covering a total area of 17.6 square kilometers, the subdistrict governs 13 communities (including 8 transformed from villages and 5 urban communities), with a permanent population of 87,032 and a floating population of 37,656.
