Tomb Pagoda of Master Zibo

Located on the mountainside behind the Main Buddha Hall of Jing Shan Temple in the Jing Shan Scenic Area. The Tomb Pagoda of Master Zibo is the burial site of Master Zibo, situated on the mountainside behind the Main Buddha Hall of Jing Shan Temple. Master Zhenkai (1543–1603), also known as Master Zibo, courtesy name Daguan, also referred to as Master Zibo, was a native of Wujiang, Jiangsu. He received Dharma transmission from Mingjue of Huqiu. In the seventh year of the Wanli era (1579), he began carving the "Tripitaka" at Jizhao Hermitage in Jing Shan. In the 28th year of the Wanli era (1600), he was implicated in the "Mining and Taxation Edict" case, imprisoned, and sentenced to death. He passed away upright on December 17 of the 31st year of the Wanli era (1603) at the age of 61. The following September, his disciples moved his relics back south, initially placing them at Jizhao Hermitage in Jing Shan. In the winter of the 43rd year of the Wanli era (1615), they were reburied on the mountainside, and the following year, his remains were enshrined in the pagoda, which was inscribed as the “Pagoda of Master Zibo.”

Master Zhenkai (1543–1603), one of the Four Eminent Monks of the Ming Dynasty, was also known by his late monastic name Zibo. A native of Wujiang (Jiangsu), he was from Suzhou in Southern Zhili during the Ming Dynasty. His secular family name was Shen, his Dharma name was Daguan, which he changed to Zhenkai in middle age, and he was known as Master Zibo.

In his youth, Master Zhenkai was bold, brave, and of extraordinary appearance, generous and full of chivalrous spirit. At the age of seventeen, he left home to travel. Originally intending to achieve military merit on the northern frontier, he was forced to stay in Suzhou due to heavy rain when passing through Changmen.
