Tong’an Temple

Located on the mountaintop in the northern part of Silinghu Scenic Area, the mountain road leading to it is still under construction with poor road conditions. About 100 meters away is Tong’an Peak. Tong’an Temple sits at an elevation of 233 meters on Tong’an Peak. According to Master Ben Ding, the abbot of the temple, it was built during the Northern Song Dynasty. It was destroyed during the Cultural Revolution but has since been partially restored, including the Heavenly King Hall, while the Mahavira Hall is currently under construction. The current Heavenly King Hall measures 12.60 meters in length and 8.40 meters in width. Tong’an Temple is a Linji sect Zen Buddhist temple. Behind the temple, there are the remains of four reliquary stupas for Buddha statues—two from the Song Dynasty and two from the Qing Dynasty, each about 2 meters tall. To the left of the temple’s entrance gate stands a stone vat from the Song Dynasty, with an inner diameter of 0.69×0.59 meters, outer diameter of 0.9×0.8 meters, and a height of 0.6 meters, carved from a single piece of rock. In front of the temple are a liberation pond, square bamboo, and a more than 300-year-old osmanthus tree. About 100 meters in front of the temple is a massive 30-meter-high cliff, where visitors can enjoy a bird’s-eye view of Siling Reservoir.
