In the valley where the natural villages of Xiayu and Maotang in the Shangougu Scenic Area face each other across two mountains, the waterfall’s source water is formed by the convergence of four streams. The waterfall has a maximum drop of 10.60 meters and a total drop of 60–70 meters. At its widest point, the waterfall spans 10 meters, with an average width of 3 meters. The waterfall flows year-round with relatively low water volume, averaging 2–3 cubic meters per second. It sits at an elevation of 199 meters. Next to the waterfall is a stone flat area, on which there are four or five large rocks made of granite. The waterfall rock formation is also granite. The valley features rich vegetation, mainly dense moso bamboo forests with a canopy closure of up to 95%. Within 70 meters of the waterfall, there are three hundred-year-old chestnut trees with an average diameter at breast height of 1.69 meters, one triploid maple with a DBH of 2.25 meters, one chinaberry tree with a DBH of 1 meter, and one sandalwood tree that is nearly withered.
