Hangzhou Shanggougou Scenic Area

The Hangzhou Shanggougou Scenic Area is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

The Hangzhou Shanggougou Scenic Area is located in Lüniao Town, Yuhang District, about forty kilometers northwest of Hangzhou in Zhejiang Province. Known as the “Honey Pear Capital of Zhejiang,” the area boasts Hangzhou’s highest peak — Yaotou Mountain, which stands at an elevation of 1,095 meters, and its second highest peak — Hongtao Mountain at 1,025 meters. It is one of the important sources of Taihu Lake.

The area contains a national treasure: a millennium-old cluster of yew trees, as well as first-class nationally protected animals such as the black muntjac, making it a national-level biosphere reserve. The scenic area is divided into three main zones: Tangkeng, Maotang, and Huaguoshan. These respectively represent a canyon-style ecological tourism zone, a high-mountain plateau leisure and sightseeing resort, and an agricultural sightseeing park. It offers not only stunning natural ecology but also a relaxing rural experience.

Tangkeng

Tangkeng is a canyon-style ecological tourism zone. The canyon stretches 2 kilometers in length with a drop of over 380 meters. It features dramatic landscapes, cascading torrents, and a total of 18 large and small waterfalls, collectively known as the “Eighteen Continuous Waterfalls.” There are also countless clear pools, and the surface scenery is extraordinarily beautiful, making it an ideal destination for adventure and sightseeing. Maotang

Maotang is a high-mountain plateau leisure and sightseeing resort. It primarily offers a rural homestay experience. At the entrance of Maotang Village, the spectacular rocky cliff slope flow is known as the “Number One Slope Flow in Northern Zhejiang.” On the large stone wall, there are also four massive rocks known as the “Stone of Three Lives” and the “Ancient Stone,” which have left eternal mysteries for the world. Additionally, there is the rare granite flow “Thousand Sheep Stone,” formed by tectonic movements hundreds of millions of years ago. Besides the beautiful natural scenery, the area also boasts rich cultural landscapes, including well-preserved sites of the New Fourth Army, ancient private school ruins, and the Maotang Ancient Village. Here, demonstrations of rural life such as making rice cakes, brewing homemade liquor, and grinding tofu allow visitors to explore the production and daily life of mountain villages.

Huaguoshan

Huaguoshan is an agricultural sightseeing park covering an area of more than 100 acres. The park is divided into three sections: the Trichosanthes section, the vegetable section, and the fruit section. The Trichosanthes section grows the highly medicinal and anti-cancer crop “Trichosanthes,” whose fruits change from green to yellow to red, offering excellent ornamental value.

The eco-vegetable section features a wide variety of vegetables, resembling a grand vegetable garden, including tomatoes, pumpkins, leafy greens, eggplants, corn, sunflowers, watermelons, taro, chili peppers, and more. The fruit section cultivates seasonal fruits such as loquats, yellow pears, aurantii fructus immaturus, paulownia, and cherries. Visitors interested can personally plant a row of vegetables, pick a basket of produce, experience farming life, enjoy the pleasure of labor, and savor the joy of harvest. Guests can also indulge in farm-fresh meals, stay in rural cottages, and live like true mountain folk.

The Hangzhou Shanggougou Tourist Area boasts Hangzhou’s highest peak — Yaotou Mountain at 1,095 meters and its second highest peak — Hongtao Mountain at 1,025 meters. Lüniao Town: Lüniao Town is located in the northwest of Yuhang District. It borders Huanghu to the east, Hengfan of Lin’an City to the south, Bai Zhang to the north, and Shan Chuan Township of Anji County to the west. The town governs six administrative villages, 131 villager groups, and has a population of 12,388, including 12,162 agricultural residents, covering an area of 72 square kilometers. Lüniao Town is surrounded by mountains, featuring dramatic landscapes, a pleasant climate, and lush greenery. With miles of bamboo forests, mountain streams, waterfalls, and unique rock formations, the scenery is spectacular. The town is 50 kilometers from Hangzhou.
