The Former Site of the New Fourth Army Mobile Clothing Factory is a Hangzhou Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit and a classic red tourism attraction.

Located in Maotang Natural Village, Xiayu Village, Shangouou Scenic Area, this is a Huizhou-style building currently used as a residence. It once functioned as the mobile clothing factory for the New Fourth Army. Built in the 1920s by the Sheng family, the exterior has high walls and small grey tiles, while the interior consists of two fully wooden floors featuring latticed windows and beams carved with phoenixes swooping toward peonies. The upper level includes small [0]. On the east-facing brick wall outside the main gate, there is an anti-Japanese slogan.

In 1945, Su Yu led the main force of the New Fourth Army’s First Army southward and established the Su-Zhe Military District, which included three columns. When the die-hard faction assembled troops to launch three attacks on the First and Third Columns, the New Fourth Army fought back and won three victories in the Western Zhejiang Anti-Diehard Self-Defense Battles. After the second counterattack victory, the First Column of the New Fourth Army was stationed in the western mountainous area of Yuhang District for training, and set up a mobile clothing factory in Maotang Village, Taiping Township. The factory site was in the homes of Sheng Shuifu and Sheng Amao at that time. There were 40 sewing machines, and over 60 people worked day and night to urgently produce a batch of military uniforms, caps, straps, belts, as well as cotton-padded jackets and trousers, which were distributed for use by the entire unit.

Anti-Japanese Slogan Wall, Maotang Natural Village, Xiayu Village, Shangouou Scenic Area. On the east-facing brick wall outside the homes of Sheng Yunyi and Sheng Asheng, remnants of a propaganda painting from that time can still be seen. The painting is 3 meters above the ground, 1.3 meters tall, and 2.7 meters wide. Due to later cement plastering of the wall, the image has become blurred. Beside the painting, three vertical lines of text read “Take up the sickle and axe…” On the right side of the wall is written “Fight to the End Against the Japanese,” signed below by “Propaganda Team No. 9, Zhejiang Provincial Political Work Brigade.” On the left, about 1.7 meters above the ground, the words “Support the Leader,” written in iron characters, can still be made out. Each character is approximately 0.8 meters square. About 20 meters to the south, the east-facing wall of a small house also bears the four characters “Defend the Hometown,” similar in size to the previous slogans, and believed to have been written at the same time.

Protected Area: Shares the same protected area as the Maotang Ancient Private School. East: approx. 25 meters beyond the cultural relic itself; South: approx. 5 meters beyond the cultural relic itself; West: approx. 10 meters beyond the cultural relic itself; North: approx. 5–25 meters beyond the cultural relic itself. Total area: 1,786 square meters.

Construction Control Zone: Shares the same construction control zone as the Maotang Ancient Private School. East: extends to the outer line of building walls approx. 40 meters beyond the protected area; South: extends to the outer line of building walls approx. 50 meters beyond the protected area; West: extends to the outer line of single-story building walls approx. 10 meters beyond the protected area; North: approx. 50 meters beyond the protected area. Total area: 10,952 square meters.
