Located on the southeast cliffs of Nanshan Mountain in Pingyao Town, Yuhang District, Hangzhou. It consists of shallow-relief stone carvings spread over a distance of more than 360 meters. More than half were destroyed in 1978, leaving 13 figures remaining. Except for the westernmost figure, which is a Taoist carving, the rest are all Buddhist carvings, reflecting the historical coexistence of Buddhism and Taoism in Zhejiang during the Yuan Dynasty. The style of carving at Nanshan differs markedly from that of the Yuan Dynasty rock carvings at Hangzhou’s Feilai Peak.

Pingyao Town: The town administers 14 administrative villages and 4 communities, with a population of 53,838 and a total area of 128.81 square kilometers. In 1997, it was listed as a comprehensive reform pilot town for small towns in Zhejiang Province. In 2000, it was designated as a central town in Zhejiang, and in 2004, it became the first “National Sanitary Town” in the Hangzhou area. It was also listed among the national key towns for small-town construction by six state ministries, and ranked among the top 100 most developed towns in Zhejiang in 2005.
