The former residence of Yang Yide is situated at the intersection of Nankai 2nd Wei Road and Nankai 2nd Ma Road. Constructed in 1921 with funding from Yang Yide, then head of the Tianjin Police Department, it served as his private home. The building originally occupied an area of 1,019.6 square meters, with a construction area of 1,173 square meters. The structure faces south and features a main entrance flanked by square and round columns on the façade, supporting a curved terrace. The front eaves on the east and west ends are adorned with hexagonal and circular corner turrets. Inside, the central first floor houses a square hall surrounded by columns, with rooms arranged around it and floral-patterned tiled flooring. The exterior walls are fitted with long rectangular windows, while the roof extends with overhanging eaves and a sloped tile roofing. The front and rear slopes feature decorative elements, and there is an entrance on the east side of the building as well as a side gate at the rear. The overall architectural style is distinctly Western, with a unique design that has been well preserved. In 2005, it was listed as a “Historical Architectural Landmark of Tianjin.”

The former residence of Yang Yide is one of the few well-preserved examples of modern Western-style architecture remaining in the Nankai District.

During the early years of the Republic of China, Yang Yide served as head of the Tianjin Police Department for over a decade. He suppressed patriotic student movements in Tianjin during the May Fourth Movement and also served as governor of Zhili Province. He holds a certain level of recognition in the modern history of Tianjin.
