Tianjin Guangdong Guild Hall

The Tianjin Guangdong Guild Hall is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Tianjin Guangdong Guild Hall is located on Nanmennei Street in Nankai District, Tianjin. Construction began in December 1903 (the 29th year of the Guangxu reign in the Qing Dynasty) and was completed in 1907 (the 33rd year of the Guangxu reign). After major renovations in 1985, it was converted into the Tianjin Theater Museum.

The theater, which serves as the main structure of the Tianjin Guangdong Guild Hall, can hold six to seven hundred people, with private boxes upstairs and general seating downstairs. The wooden carvings on the stage are the most exquisite part, each reflecting the delicate beauty of southern carving techniques. Other features such as the caisson ceiling, carved altar table, and stage itself showcase remarkable craftsmanship. As a result, films and TV dramas such as "Shanghai Grand" and "Letter from an Unknown Woman" were filmed here. Visitors can also enjoy distinctive performances such as clapper talk and crosstalk.

The guild hall has a construction area of 1,461 square meters, mainly consisting of an entrance hall, main hall, side rooms, corridors, and the theater. The guild hall adopts the traditional courtyard layout, featuring a northern Chinese exterior style with interior decorations that highlight the characteristics of Chaozhou, Guangdong. The theater is the main building, utilizing the courtyard space to form an enclosed area. Two parallel beams, each 21 meters long, run north-south, while crossbeams, each 19 meters long, run east-west, creating a large-span space. The theater stage is 10 meters deep and 11 meters wide, with a spiral caisson ceiling made of precisely fitted wooden components. Its intricate carvings are exceptionally finely crafted and relatively rare among similar structures. The wooden carvings on the stage are the most refined elements, and the front of the stage is inlaid with a large wooden carving of "Heavenly Official Bestows Blessings," which holds significant artistic value.

The Tianjin Guangdong Guild Hall boasts rich historical and cultural significance, with high value in terms of history, art, and science. Following its renovation, the Guangdong Guild Hall has become a window for understanding and appreciating Chinese theatrical art and showcasing Chinese drama culture.
