Tianjin Nie Shicheng Martyrdom Memorial
The Tianjin Nie Shicheng Martyrdom Memorial is a cultural tourism attraction and a classic red tourism site.
Introduction Situated at the intersection of Zijinshan Road and Jinyan Highway in Nankai District, the memorial consists of a granite base supporting a 2.4-meter-high tablet. The front of the tablet is engraved with “Site of Martyr Nie Zhongjie’s Death.” The two side pillars are inscribed with: “Heroic valor spans the rainbow; recalling those days when he was wrapped in horsehide after dying in battle, his loyal heart refused to be lost amid the surging waves crashing on the shore; his sincere devotion left crimson blood; seeing today’s insects and sands caught in calamity, the bones of the army weep in the southern battlefields of the War Ballad,” with the horizontal inscription reading “Inspiring Awe.” Prior to its re-erection in 1984, only the seven characters “Site of Martyr Nie Zhongjie’s Death” remained on the tablet.
