The Bamboo-lined Path at Yunqi in Hangzhou is located in Yunqi Valley on the southwestern side of West Lake, nestled in the Wuyun Mountains. Legend has it that five-colored auspicious clouds often lingered here, hence the name "Yunqi" (Cloud-Resting). Situated about 20 kilometers from downtown Hangzhou, this serene area is far from the hustle and bustle of the city. Surrounded by deep mountains and dense forests, with bamboo-covered slopes and winding paths enveloped by tall, slender bamboo, it is world-renowned for its tranquil and picturesque bamboo scenery. The scenic spot is named “Bamboo-lined Path at Yunqi” and is now one of the “New Ten Scenes of West Lake.”

The Bamboo-lined Path at Yunqi exudes poetic charm in all four seasons. In spring, sprouting bamboo shoots and fresh leaf buds bring vibrant vitality; in summer, old and new bamboo provide refreshing shade; in autumn, golden leaves carpet the ground while ancient trees evoke emotion; in winter, the silent forest is dusted with snow as birds peck at the white flakes. It is a rare tranquil spot among the “New Ten Scenes of West Lake,” characterized by lush bamboo groves, babbling streams, and pristine ecological beauty. Historically, the Yunqi area boasted natural landscapes such as Huiyao Peak, Baodao Ridge, Qinglong Spring, Shengyi Spring, Jinye Spring, and Bigu Peak, collectively known as the “Six Scenic Spots of Yunqi.” The natural beauty inspired the Qing dynasty poet Chen Can to write: “Ten thousand green bamboos cast shadows to the sky; mountain streams murmur past springs so spry.” A visit in the height of summer offers a particularly refreshing experience of its lush greenery, cool serenity, and refined elegance.
