Stop scrolling on your couch and take a walk in the mountains while the weather is nice to enjoy the fresh air and free scenery. Although Taipei is a city filled with high-rises, within this concrete jungle there are actually many natural spots like hidden paradises waiting for you to explore. ETNEWS has compiled a list of 5 trails located in Taipei City that not only offer beautiful views but are also not very difficult. Most importantly, they’re easily accessible by public transport — just hop on the MRT.
Xianji Rock Hiking Trail
Dubbed the “Queen’s Back Garden” for its scenic beauty, although “Xianji Rock” isn’t classified as a high-altitude destination, hiking up the long stone steps rewards you with a vast panorama. With few natural obstructions blocking the view, you can gaze directly at the urban landscape of Greater Taipei. The beautiful scenery instantly lifts the spirits of hikers.

Dagou Creek Riverside Trail
The Dagou Creek Riverside Trail, located at the entrance of Dahushan Villa St. in Neihu District, features a front section that follows the creek. The water is shallow and easy to walk along. It connects upward to the Yuanjue Temple Trail, offering a gentle and pleasant walk along the creek. The area is densely forested with crystal-clear water, resembling an urban paradise.

Fuzhou Mountain Park
Located along the Taipei Connector of the National Freeway No. 1, Fuzhou Mountain Park features gentle trails that are mostly made of wooden planks and gravel. Lined with lush trees, it stays cool even in hot summers. You can also rest at the small pavilions along the way. Compared to other scenic hiking trails, it’s much more beginner-friendly.

Xiangshan Hiking Trail
The Xiangshan Hiking Trail is popular both day and night due to its convenient access and manageable difficulty. In the evening, hikers come to watch the sunset, and after dark, they stay for the night views, getting an up-close look at the various skylines of Taipei’s urban skyscrapers.

Jinmian Mountain Hiking Trail
The Jinmian Mountain Hiking Trail is famous for its unique scissors rock formation at the summit and 360-degree panoramic views. The trail starts near Ming Chuan University, where you’ll see nearly vertical cliffs. As the slope increases, the stone steps give way to large rock faces. Though it’s a bit more challenging than typical hiking trails, the views are absolutely worth it.
