Twin Peaks Piercing the Clouds is an extension of the majestic Tianmu Mountain range, which splits into northern and southern branches upon reaching West Lake. These form the South Hill and North Hill within the West Lake Scenic Area. The "Twin Peaks Piercing the Clouds" Imperial Stele Pavilion site is located near Hongchun Bridge. South Peak stands at an elevation of 256.9 meters, while North Peak rises to 355 meters. The two peaks face each other from afar, stretching over ten li apart.

Regarding the origin of the name “Twin Peaks Piercing the Clouds,” historical accounts suggest that when the surrounding mountains are shrouded in mist, the tips of the two peaks occasionally emerge, as if piercing the clouds, hence the name “Two Peaks Piercing the Clouds.” When Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty visited, he changed the name to “Twin Peaks Piercing the Clouds.”

The natural scenery of Twin Peaks Piercing the Clouds is exceptionally beautiful, with the peaks standing tall and majestic. Their appearance changes with the weather—whether sunny, rainy, dawn, or dusk—especially after rain or on cloudy, overcast days, when colorful or white clouds, thick or thin, drift and wrap around the peaks. It’s hard to tell where the clouds end and the mountains begin, presenting a hazy, breathtaking scene. It's like a grand ink-wash landscape painting, vivid and richly shaded, unfolding before your eyes.
