Guide: Located at the northwest corner of West Lake, surrounded by water on all sides, this solitary hill, though not high, offers the best views of the lake. You can walk in through the Xiling Bridge to explore all the scenic spots. A brief visit will take about two hours. After that, you may choose to take a West Lake cruise to visit Three Pools Mirroring the Moon, Ruandun Green Isle, or continue eastward to see Autumn Moon over the Calm Lake.

Highlights: This area is best enjoyed by strolling. As you wander around, you’ll be constantly enveloped by a rich cultural atmosphere.

Introduction: Scenic Spot Map. Solitary Hill is not only a picturesque destination but also a place rich in cultural relics. At its southern foot are the Wenlan Pavilion, West Lake View of the World, Zhejiang Museum, and Zhongshan Park. On the western part of the hilltop is the Xiling Seal Art Society. To the west lies the Tomb of Qiu Jin, and on the northeastern slope is the Pavilion for Releasing Cranes. The latter was built in memory of Lin Hejing, a reclusive poet of the Song Dynasty who was known for his legend of having “plum blossoms as his wife and cranes as his children.” Plum trees are planted all around the pavilion, making it a prime spot for enjoying plum blossoms on the lake. Dining/Accommodation/Shopping: At the southern foot of Solitary Hill is the legendary Louwailou Restaurant, a time-honored eatery with over 150 years of history, serving authentic Hangzhou cuisine. You can enjoy your meal while taking in the beautiful view of West Lake. Transportation: You can take bus No. 7, 27, or 507 to Geling Station, then walk or take a West Lake cruise and disembark at Zhongshan Park.
