Hangzhou Botanical Garden serves as a science education base.

: Hangzhou Botanical Garden, located to the northwest of West Lake, lies on the hilly land between Lingyin and Yuquan. Originally a desolate area overgrown with wild grass and dotted with burial mounds, it was established as a botanical garden in 1956 and is one of China’s scientific research institutions for plant introduction and acclimatization. The garden covers a total area of 231.7 hectares. It features nine exhibition areas—plant classification, economic plants, bamboo plants, ornamental plants, trees, landscape gardens—and four experimental zones. With over 3,000 species of plants and more than 50,000 collected specimens, it has established cooperative relationships for seedling and information exchanges with over 40 countries internationally. The garden is home to notable species such as the American redwood, Greek olive, Japanese peach blossom, and Belgian giant water lily, making it a gathering place for diverse flora. Yuquan, part of the garden’s landscape gardens, is named for its crystal-clear, jade-like waters. The Yuquan Pond is inhabited by colorful large carp, and the scene “Fish Leaping in Yuquan” refers to this spot. The “Lingfeng Plum Blossom Viewing” attraction and the renowned “Shanwai Shan” restaurant are also located within the botanical garden.

Transportation: Take bus routes 15, 16, 21, or 28 and get off at Yuquan Station.
